Type of events logged by syslog.conf
I'm fairly new to this, but wanted to get some pointers. I've been provided with a syslog.conf file, and am trying to determine what events are being logged. Can someone please let me know what I should be looking for? Alternatively if the syslog.conf file doesn't contain this info, where can I find what events are being logged? On the other hand, is there a standard list of event types that are automatically logged?

NXLog is not syslog - it's way more powerful and available for more operating systems :)
Since you can do more with NXLog - please, take a look at reference manual, you can find there a lot of useful information about functionalities.
Briefly answering your question: you can collect logs from your software, systems processes, logs related to a particular set of events - everything really depends on your actual needs. You can find a lot of useful information in our whitepapers, for instance - security auditing whitepaper
